A multifaceted artist, Julia Piedade takes us on a journey between France and her native Brazil through her delicate French-Brazilian poetry infused with mystical symbols. The modern sound of her collaboration with producer Diogo Strausz explores the dichotomy between sun-kissed electro-tropical colours and the sophisticated melancholy of a jazz-tinged piano.

Who is Julia

Born in Brazil to composer and musicologist parents, Julia Piedade began her classical piano studies at the age of five in her home country. After moving to France in 2010, she pursued studies in Musicology at the Sorbonne under the guidance of Laurent Cugny and in jazz piano at the Bill Evans Academy with French-Brazilian pianist Philippe Baden Powell.

In 2016, Julia joined the team at the French music distributor Believe, where she held various positions for six years before fully dedicating herself to her artistic career.

A pianist, singer, composer, and lyricist, Julia wears many hats. In 2023, she teamed up with producer Diogo Strausz to work on her debut album, Chimères. Released in 2024, this album represents a modern bridge between Brazil and France, blending her French-Brazilian poetry with a unique and sophisticated sound that fuses pop, jazz, orchestral arrangements, and Brazilian rhythms.

The year 2024 was also marked by several concerts in France and a tour in Brazil showcasing Chimères.

Live

Since the beginning of her project, Julia has performed in several Parisian venues and has also toured in other countries, such as Morocco and Brazil, where her project was part of a tour in August/September 2024.
Whether in a solo format (piano-vocals) or as a trio, her concert can be adapted to various settings and venues.
Always surrounded by excellent musicians, Julia is currently accompanied in France by Miguel Couto on the drums and Bruno Dozzi-Tezza on the bass.

In this first solo project, Julia offers a hybrid sound blending jazz, pop, electronic music, French songwriting and Brazilian influences. The songs on the album explore Julia's journey as she embraces her uprooted identity through music and poetry infused with mystical symbols, taking the listener on a gentle journey under the tropics.

  • Diogo Strausz

    MUSIC PRODUCTION

Diogo Strausz is a music producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. His career began in an abandoned mansion near his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, where he formed a collective around a home studio, producing many emerging Brazilian artists, including Castello Branco and Alice Caymmi, and more recently, Mateus Carrilho.

Diogo also remixed a track by the Brazilian legend Gal Costa. With his duo Balako, he made a name for himself internationally, signing with Joe Goddard’s label, Greco-Roman.

Gilles Peterson even played some of his tracks on his BBC 6 show.

In France, he gained attention by co-producing the album Les Bruits de la Ville by Voyou and working on tracks for Julia Jean-Baptiste.

Signed to Goutte d’Or Records, a label affiliated with the trendsetters at Cracki Records—known for acts like Agar Agar, Saint DX, and Alma Elste—Diogo Strausz released his debut EP, Flight of Sagittarius, in 2022, offering a sound that is both retro and contemporary.
